Cogswell 1949 Barzana carolinia Big Lagoon, Humboldt Co. Calif. Aug. 13 at the border of the sedge (not Scirpus) paddles a Botamogeton near the mouth of Maple Creek just E. of the highway bridge I saw two, shot one (an adult, = #22), and heard at least three others in nearby sedge or Scirpus growths. The one obtained had just been feeding in the Botamogeton beds a few feet from the sedge. Its stomach held several hard, black seeds as well as a partially digested mass of green material. Aug 16,17 - Several heard in t[illegible] tule and sedge marsh areas at S.E. end of the lagoon. "Keek" calls were the only ones identified as this species. No "see-ree" calls were heard.
