Aug. 9, 10. Big Lagoon, Humboldt Co., Calif - I heard calling each day from Spruce-Alder forest canopy near our camp, 1/2 mi. inland from the lagoon. It was seen on the 9th, 2 adults flying marks noted.
Aug. 21 French Camp, 3100 ft., Humboldt Co., Calif. My squeaking under a forest of tall Douglas firs with a few tan oaks brought one individual of this species down from the fir canopy(!) to a dead limb near the trunk. I shot at it, but missed.
Aug. 28 Horse Pinto Cr., 4 3/4 mi N, 1 1/2 mi E Willow Creek, 800 ft., Humboldt Co., Calif - I seen in Douglas firs, under somewhat similar conditions to the last one (on Aug. 21). There were Tan oaks & Chinquapin nearby.
Aug. 29 2/3 mi. N Willow Creek, 40 ft., Humboldt Co., Calif. 2 were seen in mixed woodland near small tributary stream here - foraging chiefly in Alders.
Aug. 30 I seen in walnut orchard near this same woodland. The absence of this species from the maple-Alder canyon bottom forest near our camp along Coon Creek would seem to indicate that the breeding grounds were elsewhere.
Sep. 7 (2 1/4 mi NW) Red Mtn, 5300 ft., 14 mi S Hayfork Trinity Co., Calif. I collected 1 of 2 seen in Harry oak shrubs & small trees with scattered Pines & Cedars on the ridge top here. They were both silent, behaved like migrants.
