Cogswell 1949 Borex Snowbridge Aug. 9 Big Lagoon Humboldt Co., Calif. 2 caught in traps set last night along edge of alder & spruce stand. one, was under the edge of a small log at border of a young alder, blackberry & other shrubs, with tall grass & bracken nearby. The other (#4) was on leaf litter in a copse of blackberry hidden from open by projecting small logs. Also found the posterior 1/3 of body of what was apparently the same species lying on a mossy log about 2 feet above one of my traps (which had not been sprung). I am sure it was not there last night when I set the traps. Aug. 12 Caught 1 in trap set on dry soil in pocket of a thicket of blackberry, salmonberry, bracken, & sword fern about the base of an alder tree. The trap site was about under the edge of the alder canopy, which extends over a sluggish, muddy, log-felled stream on the other side of the tree. [= specimen catalogued as #17 set 250 ft] Aug. 14 Caught 1 in trap set on leaf litter under Polysti-chum munitum with 20% shrub canopy of Vaccinium parviflorum, Gaultheria shallon , and 60% tree canopy (Redwood).
