Coggshall 1949 Anthus spinoletta Sep. 8 So. Dubahella Mtn., 5800 ft. 12 mi. S Hayfork, Trinity Co. Calif. As I was seated on the summit of the peak writing notes in the late A.M. a pipit flew over in a northward direction, giving the characteristic "trip-it" call note of this species. A few minutes later (the same?) one came southward stalling flying low over me, passed on over the peak, circled low around the ridge putting just SW of the peak (where I collected the mountain quail) and appeared as though it were going to alight. It did not, however, and regained a little altitude & flew far off to the southward over the pine forested slopes where I lost sight of it.
