Aug. 8-19 Big Lagoon, Humboldt Co., Calif. - fairly common in Maple Creek valley, SE of the lagoon, feeding in the tops of Alders and on thistles in company of American Goldfinches. Never more than 5 observed at one time. Also noted (flying over) the departure of the first ridge E. of the lagoon on 16th, 17th.
Aug. 19-26 French Camp, 3100 ft., Humboldt Co., Calif. - up to 10+ noted daily in, or flying over, the Douglas Fir - Tan Oak - Incense Cedar forest or adjacent shrub or prairie areas. Also seen (5) on Aug. 22-23 in the Savvy Oak woodland of the Loyots Creek - Schoolhouse Creek area. One was heard singing near French Camp on Aug. 21.
Aug. 27 3 mi. N Willow Creek, 700 ft., Humboldt Co., Calif.
3 (2+1) flew over forest of Tan Oak, Madrone, Douglas Fir in Coon Creek Canyon.
Sep. 1 Brannan Mtn., 3500-3800 ft., Humboldt Co., Calif.
noted at several points in the Douglas Fir belt, including flock of 15-20 from which Sullivan collected 1 at "Johnson Prairie",
and in the open pine forest near the summit.
Sep. 10 S. Rubabella Mtn., 5300 ft., 13 mi. S Hayfork, Trinity Co., Calif. - 2 heard calling as they flew over open pine - cedar forest on a rounded ridge here.
