Cogswell 1949 Rivanga ludoviciana Aug. 8-19 Bez Lagoon, Humboldt co., Calif - frequent about our camp - at the border of spruce-alder forest, Riparian woodland, Berry thickets, and pastured grassland. No large numbers were seen + it is supposed they were breeding birds (no bright plumaged fs observed however). Aug 19-26 French Camp, 3100 ft., [illegible] and vicinity of Schoolhouse Coyote Deaks, 2300-3100 ft., Humboldt co., Calif. Several seen daily - all in dull plumage. Most were in Douglas Fir or mixed forest; a few were seen in the Tan Oak-Chinquapin brush of the burned over area; 2+4 were noted (on 24th) in Harry Dale woodland. Part of the ones ob- served behaved in many ways like migrants. Aug. 17 to Sep. 4) Willow Creek 3 mi. N, 400-700 ft., Humboldt Co., Calif. Very common, many obviously migrating. Small groups (2-8) were noted on many occasions passing roughly southward from tree to tree. They were most numerous in the river valley woodland areas, where they fed on berries of Rubus, Rhamnus californicus, Umbellaria (?) and Brunnus demissa. No bright plumaged fs were noted. One immature was collected on the 27th from Tan Oak-Madrone-Douglas Fir forest in Coon Creek Canyon. Sep. 6 (1 1/2-3 mi NNW) Red Mt., 5300-5500 ft, 14 mi S Hayfork, Trinity co., Calif - 3 seen or heard, in open pine forest
