Zonotrichia leucophrys
Aug. 9, 18 Big Lagoon, Humboldt Co., Calif. Several
immature juveniles in a flood near the bridge
over Maple Creek 1 mile inland from the lagoon,
in an open shrub & grass area bordering Spruce
- alder & alder-willow woodland.
Aug. 16, 17. Noted (& 10-13 individuals) in the "chaparral"
[see journal for composition] of the W. slope of
first ridge E. of the lagoon, alt. 200 - 550 ft.
Aug. 19-26 French Camp, 3100 ft., Humboldt Co., Calif.
Common along the border between the Tan
Oak - Chinquapin shrubland in the burned over
area and the bracken-grass of the ungrazed
"bald". Many juvenile plumaged birds were
still being fed by adults on 20th, 21st. A few
light oak:
individuals were seen in grazed woodland
borders near Coyote Oak, 3000 ft ±, on Aug 24-25.
Sep. 3 2½ mi. N Willow Creek, 500 ft., Humboldt Co., Calif.
2 seen in shrubland area (mangrota -
coffeeberry, etc) bordering open stubble
field in the Trinity River valley.
