Aug. 13 S.E. end of Big Lagoon, Humboldt Co., Calif. - at least 6 ?-plumaged birds seen on Pondweed channels & flats or scuttling into sedge marsh (one could apparently not fly).
Aug. 16 3 seen in another, nearby, area of the marsh.
Aug. 30 Trinity River, 1 mi. N Willow Creek, 400 ft. Humboldt Co., Calif. Six ?-plumaged birds flew up from the river at the sound of a gun fired by Bullion in woodland ΒΌ mile away. [For description of river here see Journal, p.98].
