Aug. 20 French Camp, 3200 ft., Humboldt Co., Calif. - 3
were seen in tall dead trees and shrubby
Tan Oaks & Chinquapins in burned over forest
near the top of the ridge.
Aug. 22 1 mi. NW Schoolhouse Peak, 2300 ft., Humboldt
Co., Calif. - 1 seen in Berry oak woodland.
Sep. 1 Brannan Mtn., 3950 ft., Humboldt Co., Calif - 1, in dull
plumage, seen as it perched briefly in shrubs just
below the summit [see Journal, p 105 for description].
Sep. 4 same locality, 3700 ft. - 2 seen flying over or
between tall tree tops - identified by their
characteristic call note.
Sep. 6-10 Red Mtn. ridge to S. Dubabella Mtn., 5300 - 5828 ft.,
15-12 mi. S Hayfork, Trinity Co., Calif. - 2 to 4
seen or heard daily, most of them in the
open pine woodland or Berry & Brewer
oak shrubland adjacent to it along the
ridge top. One was seen flying low over
(briefly perching on) the rock outcrops of
S. Dubabella Peak on the 8th.
