Cogswell 1949 Columba fasciata Aug. 8-19 Big Lagoon, Humboldt Co., Calif. - Frequently seen in flight over any part of the area, in groups of 2 to 10. Their favorite perches were the deal tops of tall spruces, the deal trees in the 3-year old burn, and tops of the tallest alders. Larger numbers flew over the brush covered slope E. of the lagoon than were ever seen in Maple Creek valley. On two occasions during the period I heard the "grating buzz" call (usually given during nuptial display flight); hooting was frequent. Aug. 19-26 vicinity of French Camp, 3100 ft., and Schoolhouse, Coyote Peaks, Humboldt Co., Calif. Common. For distribution in various habitats see Journal p.86.
