W Brannan Mtn., 3300 ft, Humboldt Co., Calif. 2 flew over the small bog in the saddle on the ridge here; they gave the "hip, hip" flight notes characteristic of this species. Sep. 4 Brannan Mtn., 3700 ft., Humboldt Co., Calif. calls of this species were heard, coming from well down the canyon NW of the peak! H mi. S Hay Fork Trinity R. Sep. 6/ (2½ mi. NNW) Red Mtn., 5300 ft., Humboldt Co., Calif. 7.9 calls of this species were heard on these ridges from open pine or white fir- miscane cedar-pine forests near the ridge top here.
