Cogswell 1949 Tachycineta thalassina aug. 10. Big Lagoon, Humboldt Co., Calif (1 mi. 3SE of camp) An adult & an immature were flying with members of Tree Swallows up & down the gravelly bed of the stream here, which runs in a fairly narrow canyon, one wall of which is being dug away by steam shovels. The adult was collected & turned over to Dr. Miller for preparation the following day (= his # ). aug. 14 at least 3 immatures were on wires near S.E. end of lagoon with several Tree & Barn Swallows. I collected one of the immature violet greens (= # 26) aug. 16,17 Several seen each day flying over the "chaparel" and small grassy area & adjacent forest bor- ders along the W. facing slope of the first ridge E. of the lagoon. 2000 ft. aug. 22 2½ mi. NW Schoolhouse Creek, Humboldt Co., Calif. at least 15 were seen among other swallows & too many swifts flying over grain & stubble fields here. No others noted in Bald Hills or French Camp areas covered. aug. 28 Willow Creek, 400 ft, Humboldt Co., Calif. A large flock (30+) was seen coming in, in shifts, to bathe by splashing into the surface of the Trinity River just upstream of a region of rapids here. 1 mi. N. 2:00 p.m. sep. 7 2½ mi NW Bad Mtn., 5400 ft., 14 mi. S Hayford, Trinity Co, Calif: 3 seen flying rapidly southward low over the ridge sep. 10 1 seen flying southward
