Logswell 1949 Journal 93 Aug. 27 In my traps, set last night on the N-facing slope above our camp in an area of maple-alder forest with understory of Hazelnut (Corylus rostrata) Calif. Huckleberry (Vaccinium ovatum), and Sword Fern, the following were caught: 3 Peromyscus maniculatus 1 Clethrionomys californicus (= # 71) {see species account} about 7:40 a.m., I walked W. from camp along the road on the N-facing slope of [illegible] Oon Creek canyon, then followed near the ridge top continuing W. from where the road crosses it from the S. I worked around the point of this ridge which overlooks the Trinity River about 3 mi. N of Willow Creek and then back along the S-facing slope of it to the road again. The habitats encountered were: (1) maple-alder forest - in canyon bottom at camp understory of Polystichum, Adiantum pedatum, other ferns, Aralia, Corylus rostrata, Cornus nuttallii, Ribes bracteosum, Rubus laciniatus, Toxicosa paniculata [illegible] (2) Tem Oak - Madrone - Douglas Fir forest - on N-facing slope above the last. Understory of Vaccinium ovatum, Gaultheria shallon, Corylus rostrata, Ribes sp (a gooseberry), and Rubus viti-folius. (3) Madrone - Black oak - Sarry oak forest - on S-facing slope of ridge, madrone being most common upslope & Barry oak downslope
