\n1/2 mi. E. of Big Lagoon, 550 ft., Humboldt Co., Calif.
Aug. 16 Caught one in a trap set amid tall grass,
bracken fern, and salad along a fence line
crossing the small gully along which my trap
line extended. This site was at the border
of the grassy area and was backed by waist-
high shrubs.
Aug. 17 Two caught in line of 53 traps set in Redwood -
Douglas fir - Sordland fir - Spruce forest, 1 on the
edge of an old logging road > 1 on the edge of a
small clearing. Most of the traps were
placed within the dense understory of
Gaultheria shallon & Vaccinium parviflorum.
Aug. 20 French Camp, 3100 ft., Humboldt Co., Calif.
one (?) caught in trap (of line of 50) set under
canopy of a shrubby tanbark oak (Lithocarpus
densiflora) at the border of an open Douglas fir
- Tanbark oak - Incense cedar forest on hillside
just above a small grassy area. Nearest
water, from a spring about 120 yards away.
