Coggswell 1949 Chameea fasciata. 2 French Camp, 3100 ft., Humboldt Co., Calif. aug. 21 (cont) shrubs in a partially closed canopy, but with twigs not tightly interlaced. Lower shrubs in the understories include much Haeitheria shallon some aristophylos glandu- losa, and little Berberis and Polystichum sp. Rteris aquilina and Rubus netifolius occur farther up toward the top of the ridge. many down logs, dead stumps & boles remain from a former fire. Photos taken of area. aug. 20-25 I found no wren.tits at other than the above described area while we were at this camp, but Sullion found them more numerous on the lower part of the SE-facing slope of the burned over area [I see his notes]. aug. 28 Horse Lints Creek, 900 ft., 4¼ mi. N & 1½ mi. E of 3:30 pm. Willow Creek, Humboldt Co., Calif. My squishing to call out a spotted Towles (see specit) from the underbrush here in a rather open Douglas fir - tan oak - chinquapin forest brought up two individuals of this species, which were collected. The tall trees, apparently survivors of a very old fire, are scattered. most of the space be- tween them is filled with closely spaced, spindly young firs from 20-40 ft. high. Under this is a near thicket of Vacanium ovatum, the shrubs with branches just interlacing, with a little Rubus perwifloras & some ferns also included. The wren.tits came from the interior of this thicket
