aug 8-19 Big Lagoon, Humboldt Co., Calif. Observed frequently - daily in flight over all habitats. Also noted perched in dead snags of 3-year old burn, and on gravel bar in bed of maple creek at edge of marsh (2), and on the sandy beach (2).
Aug.19-26 French Camp, 3100 ft., Humboldt Co., Calif. and the "Gold Hills" along ridge NNE of Coyote Peak. Seen frequently - daily in flight over all habitats. Never more than 4 seen together; on the 19th as we drove past it, one individual was perched atop Schoolhouse Pasture Rock which overlooked two slopes of Schoolhouse Peak.
Aug.26-Sep.4 Willow Creek vicinity 400-1000 ft., Humboldt Co., Calif. A few seen daily, flying over the valley of the Trinity River and adjacent forested slopes.
Sep 1,3,4 Brannan Mtn. 3500-3950 ft., Humboldt Co., Calif. Several flying over upper slopes - over both Douglas Fir-Tanoak and open pine forests.
Sep.8 S. Dubachella Mtn. 5500 ft., 13 mi. S Keyford Trinity Co., Calif. 2 seen flying over, circling & flapping to get to an updraft over the ridge S. of the peak. They appeared to be migrating, disappearing finally far to the southward.
