Cogswell 1949 Dendroica aestiva Aug 8-19 Big Lagoon, Humboldt Co., Calif. - Several sang daily from the spruce-alder forest and/or the alder-willow riparian woodland near our camp. They were occasionally seen. They were not noted in any other habitats covered. Aug 22 1 mi. WNW Schoolhouse Creek, 2400 ft., Humboldt Co., Calif. one seen in a hairy oak tree near the border of the oak woodland & grassy "prairie" on a S.W. facing slope. It gave only a few call notes. Aug. 29 (1 mi. N) Willow Creek, 400 ft., Humboldt Co., Calif. 2 were collected from Alder trees which form stands along a small stream near the Trinity River (W. side). They came readily to my squeak, & I called the loud, liquid "chip" characteristic of this species. Alto this is possible breeding habitat, they may be migrants as were other warblers seen here today. One, only, was put up [E # 83]. Both were immature. Aug. 30 2 were heard calling (& I glimpsed) from the same woodland area.
