Cogswell 1949 Zenaidura macronura Aug. 11 Big Lagoon, Humboldt Co., Calif. one flew over our camp, headed up Maple Creek valley. -- The only one seen by me during our stay there (Aug 8-14). Aug. 22 a.m. Bald Hills, 2200-2500 ft., Humboldt Co., Calif. - a flock of 10 and a flock of 4 were seen feeding on stubble fields + along roadside near the NW.end of the largest prairie (N. end Manegos Ranch) in the area labelled "Childs Hill Prairie" on the U.S. War Dept topo. map, Layote Peak Quadrangle. These birds were too wary to approach with gunshot range. late pm. 2 flew up from roadside just W. of Schoolhouse Peak as I drove past. Sep. 1, 3 2 1/2 mi N Willow Creek, 500 ft., Humboldt Co., Calif. 1 seen on wires + in tree tops of woodland areas bordering grass stubble, corn fields, + peach orchard. [collected by Sullivan on 3-2]
