Cogswell 1949 Passerella iliaca "Smoky creek spring #2" Sep. 9 (2 mi. NW) Red Mtn. 5300 ft. 14+ mi. S Hayfork, Trinity Co., Calif. (10:25 a.m.) One came up on top of small thicket of ceanothus carden-latus by an opening in Jeffrey pine - income later foraging on a W facing slope here - I scolded me with a sharp "chirp" as I searched for the Sygny owl (which see). I collected the Fox Sparrow (11:30 a.m.) I collected another from the same thicket as I sat writing notes near the spring here. Two others were seen earlier in the a.m. about 1/2 mi. further to the NW in an area of denser manganita & ceanothus shrubs.
