Sep. 11 (cont.) Red Mtn. to Beegum, Trinity & Tehama cos.,
Calf. (cont'd) - fork of Cottonwood creek (into
which Bakers flat cr. runs) for a 3 mi. stretch
where Pigger Pines, oaks, + yellow pines
are in scattered, complicated arrangement.
From here (Harrison Gulch Ranger Sta.) I
took little note of the zoning until we reached:
Platina and Beegum:
7. - on certain slopes
near Platina & over with areas above
Beegum there are [illegible] solid stands of
chaparral + also bits of Red-bud-Boison-
oak shrub thickets around edges of the
valley.
8. From Beegum on to the S.E. along "Dry
Creek" & across subsequent creek drainages.
The road to Red Bluff passes thru an almost
continuous stretch of Pigger Pine - Blue oak -
Valley (?) Oak - Burkely woodland which
appears much like the Sierran Upper
Sonoran zone. As in that area, the
Pigger Pines do not extend so far out
toward the valley as the oaks, which
here reach right into Red Bluff, and
can then be seen dotting the hillsides to the
N.E. of town and continuing on up the
lowest foothills [illegible] just east across the
valley. Shrubs noted commonly in them
