Cogswell 1949 Journal 110 Braman mtn, 3700 ft., Humboldt Co., Calif. Sep. 4 (cont.) a great deal of Douglas Fir coming in. In the larger draw just W. of the main peak there is also a dense growth of Rhododendron occi- dentale, Vaccinium parviflorum (small), and Amelanchier alnufolia. There was a Vermit Thrush established in this understory. I shot at it, but missed. Another was heard near the top of the ridge on the S. facing slope. Other species recorded, all of them in the open pine forest, were: Woodpecker (sp?) - heard olive-sided Flycatcher - 1 Steller's Jay - 10+ (2 collected) Mountain Chickadee - 6 (1 "") Red-breasted Nuthatch - abundant Bush. Tit - heard at summit yesterday p.m. Rusty Owl - 2 (1 seen) Sphenotus sp? - 1 On our way down the mountain, at about 10:20 a.m., we jumped a Doe Deer with 2 large fawns from the road near the Braman creek crossing — in Douglas Fir - Tan Oak forest at about 1400 ft. elevation. We are ending our stay at Coon Creek (3 mi. N of Willer Creek) tomorrow a.m. Species account summaries written for this area do not include Brannan mtn records. Wren Tit - 1 heard singing Robin - 2 heard Audubon's Warbler - 2 Pale-sided Warbler - 1 Western Tanager - 8+ Purple Finch - 2 Red Crossbill - heard. Pine Siskin - several Oregon Junco - 2 Chipmunk sp? - many
