Passerina amoena
Aug.22 Schoolhouse Peak, 2500 ft., Humboldt Co., Calif.
Along the road on the W. face of the peak I heard
the food call of at least 2 young of this species
and saw one of them being fed by a ♀ adult.
The site was one of low brush (Symphoricarpos
sp., Rubus vitifolius, a young Quercus garryana)
adjacent to a rather broad strip of grassland
extending up thru the oak woodland toward
the peak. The ♀ was collected [z # 53].
Aug.23 None could be located in this area. The ♂,
if any was present at all, was not in evidence
either day.
Aug.25 Coyote Peak, 2800 ft., Humboldt Co., Calif. An immature
was collected on the N. side of the peak [illegible]
as it
flew up to the lower branches of a small
Garry oak from the tall grass under it.
Aug.31 (Lewis N) Willow Creek, 400 ft., Humboldt Co., Calif.
I collected one of several (♀ and young) present in
the Umbellularia - Cottonwood-Willow - Walnut-
Oak - and berry bush "woodland". They
had been noted here for the previous 3 days also.
a ♀ was seen feeding young here on the 28th.
Sep.3 2½ mi. N Willow Creek, 500 ft., Humboldt Co., Calif.
I heard calling in open shrubland area
(Manzanita - Oak - Madrone - Coffeeberry shrubs)
between broad-leaved forest & open field on
the E. side of Trinity River valley.
