St 8-19cm, rather stiffly erect > branched only collabrr. middle into a relatively short infl. (Blue spee had a branch from very base or perhaps 2 at from some sort.) Basal leaves show no sign of rosette formation, often they are ovellied; side not they are ovaie, rounded to broadly acute at tips and narrowed

7-25-39 narrowed at base into long distinct petiole. Largest found is 32x15mm or petiole [38 mm?]. The st. leaves strong (2 with base broadened to lanceolate). The lowest sometimes narrowed as into a very narrow petiole, but sometimes cordate, partly clasping the angular st. Stems rough with up-curved (in mat. sometimes spreading) but not hooked hairs. Infl. leafless, its st's pedicels appressed pubescent, similarly the calyx appressed pubescent but with some up-curved hairs, a few [which near base are usually] hooked at end. Infl consists of 2 about equally almost erect terminal branches with in some cases a third back branch slightly below. Calyx 3mm cut to 1/3? 1mm [base], the lobes as long or longer than shorter than corolla tube. Corolla a true "forget-me-not blue", its limb flat, 7 mm diam. (As remembered on mountain they seemed larger). Calyx often has a bluish tinge and its white hairs give it a frosted look. Cup of deeper lobes. Calyx pipe for under part of the base. Pedicels 5mm, at nutile, stiffly ascending, closely placed (nodes about 2mm) regularly 2-ranked (in fl.). Corolla closed in fr. Seed nuts about 1.7x1.3 mm, 1 husk at apex, thin edged, not at all beaked on either side, usually so on inside. Note: desc. Costa & Bon not conclusive. BVH T. 259 show general appearance well but st's not decumbent at base & calyx lobes longer in Neye specimens. Several plants of M. pyrenaica (d with a spec.) 7-25-33 Rockpile Nye which with more branched flower infl., longer (5 mm) & more glabre.
