7-14-33 Festuca purpurea Clair Cote III 639, Bon 366 = F.— Vill SUT I 98 Fl. Rockers de Noye (see to SUT the bristle-like lvs and developed ligule (without ears) leans only this V.F. varia. But as lvs are not rush-like or prickling and as lemmas are defawed only pos seems F. purpurea (altho some lemmas mid awns are 7mm, Bon to the contrary). Plant 4½in high rising from a tuft in many sets awns lvs bound into bundles by the sheaths & the lowest of them st very slender, naked for upper ⅓ of length. Lemmas hoodly scarios at top & tapering into an awn 1t mm. Ovary hairy on top. 8-18-33 Solidago aerostina Ait. # 796, SUT I 668, = S. glabra Desf. Cote II 288, Bon 160. Fl. Glads. Cult (from herbar shop; perhaps the same as seen in V-M dining room). St. branched down into longish ty branches. St. glabrous, light colored & smooth ly giving, but at: deutla abt middle parts of inf pubescent. Lvs glabrous smooth to feel except on the edges (def. rough) & veins beneath (less rough). Branches of infloresc down almost at ½s wid. at v pedicels erect at st 1s with bracte (very def. 1-sided). Invlfogations, 3⅓mm high. Bracts no more blue than S. canadensis (with which cfl). Ligule longer than disk flo (reach about to base of stigma of disk flo) so that when head first duds (i.e. before stigmas of disk flo are protruded) the effect is many tiny yellow buds tips. Plant more elegant than S. aerostina
