The almost glabrous ones strongest from center). Slender wand-like stems 16-25cm from the ground, branches (young) near the base. (Note the male is moved each year). Wood has no raised lines as in S. cinerea. Trivogs greened at base but def. brown-red fr. most of their length. One stem bears catkins fr. 1/4 its length, another only 1/2 its length. Catkins slender sessile with 2 small broad bracts Catkins 1½- 2½ cm long. Bract hairy ±1⅓ mm hairy v bearded at apex, very dark most of its length. Gland rather less than 1mm pedicel 5mm, fr (a.t.S) 6mm, style defles to tan ½mm. Fr with short silky hairs largest if now is 16x4 mm ex. pedicle & almost 2mm 1/4 slightly glaucolate, acute glabrous except sometimes few remains of hairs on edges); beneath glaucous.
