from R.R. Acc to keys (Cote vs SVKI) this must be L.5-
or L. virsol. but as achenes are definitely hairy at
apex and in color an olive drab with indicated
darker motlings (not black as desc for L. virosa or
"purple-black," see 6-26-33) it seems most likely L.8-
But note that no loose as will Cote. Lower lvs are obly
to 8 x1.7 cm shallowly sinuate lobed. Then upper
lvs properly small are more nearly lanceolate
and are entire except for the fine but pronounced
periclinal edges (lower lvs have similar edges)
Base of st & midribs of lvs beneath def setose precisely
to and mid-rib silvery white. Lvs (as far as can
be judged from col specimen) do stand mostly with
one edge up. Spec col is 2½ ft (taller ones were
seen) with several ascending branches from
near base. The paneculate inf[or] occupies 1/4
t of the main st and when buds had developed will
evidently extend much lower. Achenes shaped as
ill Cote #3½ x 1 mm with a white beak ] 4½ mm.
St lvs are most like ill#2180 in Cote and this plant
may be var.--- integrate Brew & Holz. #866, SVKI

Note SVKI desc L was sometimes all undivided. R.B.H. not
sure some plants seen but not collect did not have lvs
more divided than the one collected. [9-29-33 Fl/2 Same
