5-18-34? Veronica gentianoides Vahl BMJCP. 671, SV VII 362 Fl. Cult. Drogarden. Basal leaves in rosettes. St (prof several) unbranched, to 1/2in high, sprawling ascending 1/2os thickish with 3-5 lengthwise nerves (fourse but more visible on back) somewhat de- pressed on both back front. 1/2os grayish, glabrous. necks and both glabrous above but (2x?) have scattered short erect hairs. 1/2os sessile, 8 long (broadest about about middle of tall), the lower ones opp to those to broad acute, the upper hardly larger than the bracts, all and lanceolate acute. Inff (now) 8in long, laxly many fld. Inffa terminal raceme. Fl pale blue with darker line, large (19mm diam), 3 petals almost circular, the 4th lobe shorter and much narrower (2 1/2 mm wide). Lowest pedicel (now among young fls) 2cm with bract 15mm. Bract exactly like the nearest of below. Pedicel of fl now open 15mm with linear herbaceous bract 75mm. Flo stood tall around the at. but young fls around (poss from place of growth?) & glab- rous below but becoming hairy towards the infl and pedicels, bracts & calices as well as axis of inff. all hairy. Calyx much smaller than corolla with 4 unequal lobes. Style 7mm long. Calyx 5-6mm high. Oldest fls now much smaller, thick, hardly lobed, have at summit. No gland on plant. Anthers blue.
