5-5-34 Tragopogon pratensis L. Cortez 420; Bon 186, BTH 266, Y 864, SVK I 719. Fl. Velleneuve Bouveret. Various apec. One (at least) very flry from the base up with many young branches. The long tops flow very ruffly. Fl has 13 bracts. But in every way it seems exactly like the T. so common at Aliso, all pedicels are pubescent. orientalis (SVK I 719). This plant is further evidence that ??? Besigenera hispanica!)? 8-24-33 was T.p.- and arouses query about plant of 7-18-33. 5-5-34 Populus balsamifera L. BM&CP 226 = P. mouilefera Cut Costett 273 = P. virginiana Fougereux SVK I 80 = P. deltoides Marsh A 329. Low only, near Bouveret. Dquery whether this is the poplar so common bet Velleneuve and Bouveret? St (last yrs twig) visibly grooved for about 6 in from tip. This shows through the bark (the peeled twigs are deeply s-ridged. In P. nigra twig is smooth & unfurrowed with balsam; peeled at leaf is s-ridged - perhaps less distinctly so). Young lvs (now 4 1/2-5cm), truncate or very slightly emuncate at base, sides curving ovately to a narrow, sharp tip (all Cost.). Edge finely v embroidery-like crenate with very short fine hairs. 2 glands at base of lf. (more in P. nigra). & MPC pray P.balsamifera is rare in Europe so this may be a variety or a hybrid.
