13 June Oystaul Creek, Cape Thompson, Alaska
Nidyl top: Horned lark, Water Pipit, Lapland
snow Bunting,
longspur, Baird Sandpiper (3 pair), Green Plover
(4-6 pr), Knot (1 nest with incubating bird),
(at least 3 spp), Raven, L-t. Jaeger, Rock Ptarmigan 78
After watching the knots for most of the
day, we returned to camp a little off from,
boothillend & rappel for awhile. At
about 1730-2 I walked up
along Oystaul Creek & along the
adjoining hill-slopes. The creek had limited
snow cover - up to 3' over a
sculpture clump 1 grain. The hill slope
are Canvasback, Eriophorum Tenuifolium.
Birds seen: Wilson's Snipe (nest 1 bird with
prett- 4 eggs - on edge / Eriophorum tenuifolium -
in will mouse area - 40' from stream
bed - and pure - strong destructive draft,
seventail Sporel Tadpoles, weeping
out of the scale, flapping - squabbling
note), Savannah Sparrow (1 nest with 6 eggs),
White-W. Sparrow, Redpoll, Lapland Longspur
(1st), Canada Goose, Cloverleaf, Whitewate
(our stream mouth), Black Brant (any floods
along ocean), Semipalmated Sandpipers, No Western
Sandpipers (even though hill sides & creek banks
were thoroughly checked - no birds were seen).
