We returned to camp at 0100. Weather
Today has been variable - rain shown
on minute, sunny warm + mosquitoes
in nest. In severe Newweather was:
46-45° F, dropping to 38° during the night.
HABITATS: Upland - hill tops & slopes - quite
bare with snow and dry polygonal
scattered Dryas tussocks. Occasionally
small swales are found with Eriophorum
being the most conspicuous plants. In
this habitat - little is found - but occasional
Black-bellied Plover & Horned Larks (Mobs).
The lower hill sides start getting snow
Eriophorum & Drya tussock - then mud
with Eriophorum & the marshes -
here with scarce green sedge etc.
In lower slope - Duff-breaks Sandpiper,
Sanderling, Black-bellied Plover, Longspur,
Horned Lark, Rock Ptarmigan - Goldfinch
Low marshes - Wet, pools, lakes -
Eriophorum - not snow
with Drya & hummers (larks [red
line - most variety]). White-rump
Sandpiper, Phalaropus, Lussem,
Semipalmated Sandpiper, King Eiders. (WIM-
all 3 Woods/ Kings were seen in the
Areas today.
