13 Aug. BARROW, ALASKA
Morning, Hurd & I went out to
beach & gasoline ridge (1PS-D, 7TPS) +
The West side insect plots (few dm 60 -
no per sec) - where we looked me the
Sampling Program & sites & discussed insect
matters. We returned via Berta's Bar-
where 2 DnAB & 2-3 Ats + RP went to the
gravel area. Bird activity was incredibly low
Afternoon, specimens were processed
& paperwork completed. Weather
Today was overcast - light wind -
35-40°F - Apparently
freeze temp. (but my alt.
14 Aug BARROW, ALASKA
Morning spent in lab working on data &
talking with Hurd & Maker (who arrived back
from Banks last night).
After lunch, Hurd & I went to Desert
plod, while I took soil & sand samples
where Hurd did some surface check
(where none were seen). It feels like
area is rich - certainly more than
Motel ridge. - Several Longspurs,
1GP, 5x Glaucous Gulls, + Pom Day - we
seen no shrikes! Orient - rain already
next wind 5-15mph - pasty.
