27 may Barrow, Alaska
Tundra: The snow is quite soft. Many polyg-
steps are exposed I have been for a week or
more. Pre-equivalent date - fir
start met Will eat your woodchuck
June 6-7.
Lemming sign is spotty - only occasional
An active runway seen on the now-
explosed Tundra. The faejar activity is not
very shiny today. I saw a snowy owl was noted
today.
28 may Barrow, Alaska
Organized lab in early morning, Ben walked out
through drum area. Weather clear & sunny,
many large puddles. 1 snow & up plains, streams
1 melt water were pouring into the lower
areas. Saw 2 SP + 2 BS, one of the former was
displaying - Gee sp. accs. Longspurs were abundant &
their songs were heard frequently. Lemming sign
was much better than that seen a week ago
yesterday - most of the tundra now exposed
hot Sign / cut - some of the entire area
we moved, but in mat, caching was
confined to the vicinity of the runways.
No jaeger - no birds noted. - Several lemming were
seen in the declining & 2 mth (10% snow)
remaining between 2 patches.
In afternoon, drove to Britton's area -
