15 June Barrow, Alaska
in the low sixties - This continued through
the early afternoon, but by evening dark
cloves & cold winds came and settled in. It
was cold & foggy by 3000. - with some rain.
In the evening I drove Dr. Klaus
Schmidt-Koernig from Duke University to the
Beast & Gosline Ridges & checked the area for
shorebirds - little activity was noted - apparently
since it was raining.
16 June
Shannon & godwit & banded the insect sample
#1 during the a.m. In the afternoon - Hines &
I Josh Pfeifer to Bear Ridge & then went
to Elvir Lagoon - where we found at least
5 Curlew Sandpipers & numerous Red
Phalaropes, c. flock of Black-tailed Sandpipers,
Sew. Dunlin, Sew. R. Turnstone, 1 Sew. Gold
Plover, 3 Pacific Gull - & Sew. Pomarine Jaegers.
One across central marsh to Cache - with
Stays & insect plot - insect sample #2
was taken. Returned at 1745. In the evening,
Pfeifer & I returned to Elvir Lagoon - I
saw 2 Curlew Saps. Weather overcast
during the morning but clear (foggy)
in the afternoon & evening. 10 mph SE
wind blowing during most of the
day.
