Holmes,R 1962 Journal 53 25 Aug Barrow, Alaska try to find shorebirds. Few were located- except at the gravel ponds. Weather overcast during the morning with 1-2 kt SSW wind; clearing in the afternoon- sunny, with little or no wind. In the evening - went to the village - returned at 2200. 26 Aug Barrow, Alaska - Gull Lake, Alaska Went to Drift plot at 850' for soil sample; returned & left worked- then all morning. Weather overcast, light sprinkles from 10-15 mph westerly wind. Left at 1430 for Gull Lake with Bill Challis & Bob Murphy (pilot)- 1 Owl seen near Wainwright - no other seen nor were any gulls seen. Arrived Gull Lake about 1735 - landed at 1800. The lake has gone down in size + depth- 30-40'. A mud gravel is now around the edge (the lake & the island). Also the island has been extended - by gravel bar - 150' to the northwest. On arriving there were about 80-90 Gulls seen on the island & about 25? These seem to be young of the year, 6-10 older immatures (2-3yr?) & the remainder were
