Holmes,R. 1962 Insect Sampling 31 may Barrow, Alaska Two samples taken from Britton's tree where a number 1 polygon are exposed. Ponds are starting to open up. 1-to m² sample taken from a pond edge - the hyp center polygon area - contained 5 Pedicia. Another sample taken 5' away on a higher polygon - no detectable insects. A gas ARDS was inhabited, the area. Both plots were granted Covered. 2 June - 2 samples taken from grass-sedge slope - One sand sod (Woblesly Flough - where 2 Diver were shot. ) contained 5 Pedicia. None seen in the other sample - taken 5' away. 5 June Perma-frost levels open slope is about 1 inch or less. 9 June Direct plots have been Covered by snow but Today snat 1 The polygotypes have become exposed ; The ponds, however, are still deep - snow - only the top (stales) are thawing. Snow in becoming quite soft. Thaw + New shower will clear soon. 8 June 3 soil sod samples taken from bluff - several Pedicia + 1 Tipula - see sample sheets. 9-13 June - Most (One day were dry) Thawing - the snow literally disappeared. Many ponds beginning to open. - 6 traps today
