Holmes 1963 Journal 9 July Barrow, Alaska left for Shnarik at 0830 + spent all day in the census plot, locating girtind nuts; with dipter activity by any species; some flora. I pictured present. The day was overcast, A light breeze to S.E. No mosquitoes today - but typical Adults were very noticeable. 10 July Barrow, Alaska I went to Scolini Ridge - N. meadow slope in a.r. + colluv. located 2 brood 1 redbroke + Scattered groups 1 pithrode, 1 pool 14 semi-pod + 2-3 pairs of birds. No display- ent. freely redbroke. In afternoon, pool + Dacun samples were taken at the insect area. Weather partly overcast - occasional sun - 5-10mph casting wind. No mosquitoes, but surface insects were extremely abundant. 11 July Barrow, Alaska Morning a lot writing notes & processing pond samples. In afternoon, I moved a nut cheet - the beach ridge census plot. I've developed a cold wheeze is slowing my fieldwork.
