Holmes,R 1962 Journal 8 July Barrow, Alaska Worked on insect samples during parts of the morning afternoon. Went to The North Wohlleben area to check the Curlew Sap - which was not present - noted 1 egg or 2 - clow were noted. Saw 2 Caribou near Elson Lagoon. Weather - partly overcast - but windless & warm - mosquitoes were thick. In the afternoon, I returned to check more Porcupines - the at the end of the Sarapope - by 2pm time a 2-3mph westerly breeze hot rise & rain fell for about 45 minutes. Many jaegers - mostly Long-tails were seen - on marsh & east toward Elson Lagoon. Little shorebird activity. Stevens + I went to Shnavik at 2130 - high overcast - light NW wind. Wannigan had been burglarized & much of the food stolen. 9 July The plot was censused from 1930-1330. Weather clear & sunny - light northerly breeze during the afternoon. The bird activity - the plot was rich! Hardly any birds were seen heard [IRD displaying, 2 small flocks of RRP, 18 Pectorals, seen jaeger rows - + nothing more except any femininating birds]. Left the Wannega at 1930 - drove around the south end & the Cape - +
