Holmes, R. 1962 Journal 15 Aug Barrow, Alaska In the morning - I went to Shnavik via Vol+ Footprint Lake. Returned on the east side of gasoline by meadows & beach ridge. Weather - Thick fog - 1/8 to 1/2 mi visibility. Footprint Lake was nearly devoid of life - except small flocks of longspurs & 3 immature plovers. Mather's love Lawn on gravel ponds near Britton's Butte Turk Lake (Pholospera, mauri, & first alpino - R. Turnstone & melanotes) - while some pholages & mountain alpines were also present at the large inland lakes (not Shnavik, however). Afternoon was spent picking insect larvae specimens. Nobles' were Specimens were collected in the evening. 16 Aug Barrow, Alaska Drive to Bead Ridge & halfway to Elson Lagoon - during the morning. Then went to Britton's Butte & Sour Salt Lagoon in the afternoon. Weather overall - muddy & windy (10-15 mph - E). Several groups of seals, birds & plovers seen - Aluminum little activity. Some vacuum used samples were cleared. Then full moon & Mullen's in the evening.
