R 774 1963 23. Journal 24 June Barrow, Alaska counts. Weather was overcast with a 5-10 mph north wind. Several stippled adult plovers & chimmnids were seen; #1 adults are on the increase. Bird activity was again low - no pectoral and display ever heard or seen - 2 or 3 down seen observed. One flock of 45 pectorals near the calheater road. In evening, samples were procured + notes written. Weather deteriorated - hear for - light winds. 25 June Left for Shrovet after processing one specimen. Arrived there at 0900 - around the south plot first - found 1 western sandpiper + 1 white - rump. Pectoral activity was low compared with four days ago. By mid afternoon, Newcomer detected, no display, 1 male chasing. Returned to Barrow - arrived there at 1730. Weather overcast - 0-5 mph breeze (N.) in morning, 5-10 mph E at afternoon. In evening specimen were procured + notes written. Air for settled in by 1200 + there was a cold + moist east wind.
