Holmes, R. 1962 Journal 34 26 Aug. Barrow, Alaska - Quillaby Blade Adults. All dead - full, sour chief were found along At shore of the island. De counting De nut sites - There appears to be about 23 active nut burial sites (±10). 14 pellets were picked up in hour + we departed after getting stuck at several sand bars at 1930.- arriving back at Barrow at 2130. The lake is drying up so much that landing - next year - may be difficult. This may have been our last trip!! 27 Aug Barrow, Alaska Finished processing sod samples by 0900. De went to Voth area & took pond samples. Weather overcast with 5-12 mph - N.W. wind. In the afternoon - after processing several samples - went to Central marsh - Gasline Pedy + points to the south. Rain began during the afternoon + continued through the evening. Very fair birds seen - Sincal Scaftord 1 + 2 alpines don't 1 Ad. alpina. Only 3 meadowlarks seen. 28 Aug Barrow Alaska - Fairbanks Packed all morning & left via Wien at 1145. Arriving 4Bh. at 1400 after Stopping in Unalakleet. Weather at Barrow was mercifully cool ± 30-55 mph - N.W. wind.
