We arose at 0630 and ate breakfast.
We made one pass through from Osborne
Park to the Highline Canal, looking
for lizards from 0715 to 0940. We
saw one juvenile Cnemidophorus tigris,
and 2 jwr. Dipsosaurus dorsalis. We
also saw 4 DOR Phrynosoma m'calli
(3 jwrs & 1 ad M). We captured 5 P. m'celli
(3 ad, 2 jwrs).
As we approached Brawley, we saw
tousands of birds in a plowed field that
was being irrigated. The most numerous
birds were black-necked stilts, followed
by ring-billed gulls, black terns, and
wood ibis. I counted 162 wood ibis
feeding on this plot.
We returned to UCR at 1430, after
a trip of 434 miles. We had captured
50 lizards of 6 species on the trip,
as follows:
Dipsosaurus - 7 (1 ad M, 5 ins, 1 jwr), 4 released (+1 DOR)
