Saddleback Buttes area, Los Angeles Co., Calif.
We found them to be quite abundant in this region yet, even though we have collected quite a few here in the past. We captured 12 this morning as we drove toward Lovejoy Buttes. This gave us a large enough sample of S. magister, so we didn't bother to stop for other S. magister we saw near Lovejoy Buttes. Instead, we returned to Phelan to look for S. occidentalis.
Phelan, San Bernardino Co., Calif.
For some reason we didn't see a single S. occidentalis in the entire area where we have captured large numbers in the past. The temperature was not so hot that all the animals should have been out of sight. Nevertheless, we didn't find a single lizard from Phelan to Wrightwood.
Blue Ridge, Los Angeles Co., Calif.
We returned to Blue Ridge to try to get a sample of S. occidentalis at that elevation. However, they were nearly as hard to find here as they had been around Phelan. Lots of S. graciosus were seen,
