Mayhew 1964 Journal 2. Mar. 23-25 Glamis area, Imperial Co., Calif. We dug up 2 more stakes where Scaphiopus couchi had buried themselves, but did not find any toads. Both sites were quite rocky about a foot beneath the surface. I checked on the swallow (cliff) colony 4 miles south of Warner's Hot Springs on the way home. There are 62 nests in good repair beneath this culvert. I saw approximately 30 birds in the air while I was there, but I also heard quite a number in the nests. (Bridge D 4.55 on S 2). We returned to UCR at 1830 after a trip of 483 miles. June 3 Dave Reuther, Kenneth Evans and I left UCR at 0720 to get some Phrynosoma m'calli for a hibernation-light experiment. We reached the Highline Canal at 1030 and immediately started a pass between the canals. We found 3 DOR P. m'calli, but no live ones. The only live reptiles we saw were Dipsoosaurus dorsalis and Callisaurus draconoides. Several of each species were seen before 1300. The air temperature (1 meter) when we began was 33.5°C.
