Ken Evans & I left UCR at 0910 for Coleonyx variegatus and Phrynosoma m'calli. We reached the Highline Canal at 1220 and immediately began driving the road between the canals, looking for P. m'calli. We continued to look until 1730. During this period we captured 3 near the road and dug 1 out after tracking it. We also caught 1 Dipsozaurus dorsalis, 1 Uta stansburiana, and 1 Uta notata. We also found 5 DOR P. m'calli.
We night collected for Coleonyx from 1915 to 2245. During this period we collected 19 in excellent shape, 3 that were alive but injured by cars, & 1 DOR that was in fine shape. At least another dozen DOR's were seen, but were damaged beyond saving. The weather all day and evening was ideal - no trace of wind or clouds, with a maximum daytime temperature of 30.0°C. We drove a total of 49 miles while night collecting, 218 miles for the entire day. We spent the night in the creosote bush scrub, 1 mile west of the Coachella Canal.
