Mayhew 1964 Journal 13. Oct. 2 Glamis area, Imperial Co., Calif. al Bennett, Stewart Jacobson, Shirley Hill & I left UCR at 1650 to get an additional sample of Phrynosoma mcalli. We reached the Glamis area at 2030 and camped for the night. Oct. 3 We began looking for lizards along the road at 0810, and continued looking until 1130. One DOR P. m'calli was found and 8 live ones were collected. Only 1 (♀) was an adult, about noon Carle Hodge (Univ. of Arizona Geochronology Lab.) met us as planned. After lunch we made one rather rapid pass (1400 to 1420) between the canals, finding 1 young P. m'calli then. Following this, we looked for Uma notata and Urosaurus gracilisus in the dunes from 1430 to 1700. A fairly large number of young of both species were seen, but relatively few adults. The weather was nice and warm at the time. However, Shirley Hill's father told me later in the day that this was the first warm spell for some time. Night temperatures have already dropped into the 60s (°F) several nights. Oct. 4 We looked for U. notata & U. gracisus in the dunes from 0830 to 1030. Carle left us about 0930.
