Sept. 10
Hesperia, San Bernardino Co., Calif.
Al Bennett, Shirley Hill & I left UCR
at 1030 to get some observational data
concerning the times that Sceloporus
magister are active in the afternoon
during September. We drove the
roads in and around Hesperia from
1110 until 1715. A number of S.
magister were seen during this
period. We tried to capture only
a few that we saw, however. We
were successful in capturing 4
adults (2?, 2?) during the day.
We returned to UCR at 1745
after travelling at total of 131 miles.
Sept. 28
Dale Dry Lake, San Bernardino Co., Calif.
The September temperature records
for Uma Scoparia were considerably
lower than for adjacent months
(including October), so Shirley Hill &
I left UCR at 0910 to check on
the situation. We captured 22 U.
scoparia between 1110 and 1600, and
measured the cloacal temperature of each.
All of these temperatures were in the
range of temperature measured during
other months, suggesting our previous
September sample was not typical.
We reached UCR at 1915 after
a trip of 225 miles.
