Mayhew 1962 April 24 Journal 15. Palm Springs area, Riverside Co., Calif. In addition, several squashed DOR's were seen but not collected. I quit looking for lizards in that area at 1400 + delivered a sink for the Desert Station to Lloyd Tevis. Then I began looking for lizards again at 1610 along Rio del Sol Road north of Rancho Mirage. By this time the wind was beginning to blow rather hard, so I didn't see many lizards. However, I caught a couple Uma inornata along this stretch. I returned to UCR by the old highway between 1000 Palms & Hemet. I saw several Uma inornata, but I was unsuccessful in capturing any. I reached UCR at 1810, after a trip of 14.5 miles. A total of 27 Uma inornata were seen today. I captured the following: Uma inornata - 7 (2 released) Dipsosaurus dorsalis - 15 (3 released) Thus, I caught 22 animals of 2 species today. The arrival of the wind this afternoon seemed to keep most of the animals inactive later in the day. Numerous tracks were seen where no animals were visible. The tracks were new, because a wind 2 days earlier cleared the area.
