Aug. 19 Stoddard Valley, San Bernardino Co., Calif.
We quit looking at 1145 and
started back to Riverside. We reached
UCR at 1405 after a trip of 283 miles.
We captured 55 animals of 7 species
as follows:
Sceloporus gracilans - 26 (12 ♂, 14 ♀)
Sceloporus magister - 8 (2 ♂, 5 ♀, 1 jun) (released)
Crotaphytus collaris - 3 (2 ♂, 1 jun) (2 other juns seen)
Phrynosoma platyrhinos - 1 (♀)
Cnemidophorus tigris - 4 (2 ♂, 2 ♀)
Callisaurus maculosus - 10 (5 ♂, 5 ♀)
Uta stansburiana - 3 (2 ♂, 1 ♀)
Total 55
Aug. 20 Lovejoy Butte area, Los Angeles Co., Calif.
David Renthler + I left UCR at 0615.
We looked for Sceloporus magister
from 0720 to 1015. Very few of them
were seen this morning. We captured
1 adult ♂ and 1 juvenile ♂. Two other
juveniles were seen and 4 other adults
were seen. We also captured an
adult ♀ Crotaphytus wislizeni + a
juvenile ♂ C. wislizeni (♂). Both juveniles
were returned to the lab. for growth
data. We looked for Uta scoparia
in the small dunes just west of
Joshua Tree State Park without success,
even though they have been reported here.
We reached UCR at 1155 after 181 miles.
