Mayhew 1962 Journal 47. Aug. 18 Holcomb Valley, San Bernardino Co., Calif. We reached the yellow pine area at 1400 and began looking for Sceloporus graciosus immediately. We captured 26 of them by the time we quit looking at 1600. Several juvenile S. graciosus were seen but not captured. Then we returned to Lucerne Valley & drove to Pickaninny Butte to look for S. obesus again. Pickaninny Buttes, San Bernardino Co., Calif. We drove around the western side of this range of hills without seeing a single S. obesus. It didn't appear too late in the day - there just didn't seem to be any animals around. Stoddard Valley, San Bernardino Co., Calif. We drove on to this valley and camped for the night. The minimum temp. tonight was 70°F., the maximum temp. we encountered was 102°F. Aug. 19 We arose at 0630 and ate breakfast. We looked for Callisaurus draconoides & Cnemidophorus tigris from 0730 to 0945. Then we drove the road through the valley that skirts a number of rocky areas. We were looking for S. obesus again, but still saw none.
