Mayhew 1963 Journal 40. Sept. 18 Glamis area, Imperial Co., Calif. The waskes had stopped flowing by the time we arrived. Nevertheless, there were numerous puddles still standing. We drove north of Glamis toward Amgoa, but didn't hear a single S. couchi. We heard the first S. couchi call in a pool 1/2 mile S.E. of Glamis near the Glamis - Ogilby road. We captured 3 adults here before proceeding S.E. We looked for 1 1/2 miles S.E. of Glamis without any further success. Then we returned to the pavement and headed for the Chocolate Mtns. We heard S. couchi calling in the first tree - lived west in Purgatory Flats (6 mi. E. of Glamis). We found one amplexing pair in a pool, as well as 6 individuals. We left the pair, hoping we could collect some eggs there the following morning (some day after sunrise). The air temperature at this time was 20.2°C. The toads we captured at this site (about 0200) apparently had just emerged. Several of them were dehydrated, and a couple of these had a dark covering over parts of their bodies, as though they had
